In November 2004, BCH successfully began trialling the worlds first fuel cell powered house. Innovative hydrogen fuel technology delivers both electrical power and hot water in the home, following the successful outcome of a two-year research project.
As a social landlord, BCH is planning for the future, as global warming is becoming an increasingly important issue and the security of essential gas and oil supplies is becoming less certain. A key aim of the trial is to find out what needs to be done to ensure that fuel cell technology can successfully replace the use of carbon-based fuels, e.g. natural gas, in providing electrical power and hot water in the home.
